The Adjusted Total is the Czapwoods method for determining the 18-hole equivalent score for players who elect to only play nine holes during the tournament. The rule is also known as "Double Plus Five."

If you elect to play 18 holes...

...you do not need to use the Adjusted Total method. Simply add your "Out" score and "In" score for your total.
If you elect to play only nine holes...
  • Play the first nine holes, marking your score for each.

  • Total your nine holes, and mark it as your "Out" score.

  • Then write the same score as your "In" score.

  • Add your "Out" and "In" scores together and mark as your total in the "TOT" column of your scorecard.

  • Then add a one-time, five stroke penalty for your round. This simulates average fluctuation in play over 18 holes.

  • List your adjusted total (with the five stroke penalty) in the "ADJ TOTAL" column, and turn in your scorecard.
The easy way to remember the Adjusted Total rule is "Double Plus Five." Double your nine-hole round and add five strokes for your Adjusted Total. Back to the Course Rules
